Our Mission Statement

Promethean Candle Boutique specializes in handmade custom candles. Every candle is poured for our customers each time a candle is ordered. Because of this, we have NO inventory of candles and therefore, each candle you order is guaranteed to be fresh.

Not only that, but you literally have thousands of different combinations to choose from regarding size, shape, color, design and scent. No other candle boutique offers this level of customization. Instead of picking from a limited selection of candles that may or may not fit your needs, you design the candle from the ground up - you design them and we make them.

Our goal here at PCB is to cross the boundaries between quality handmade, functionally adequate candles and true works of art made by real people with the utmost care and attention. We take pride in the quality of our candles and guarantee that each one is made exactly according to your specifications.

The Way Things Work Around Here

When we say custom candles, we really do mean it. Here at Promethean Candle Boutique, we offer you an upgraded twist on shopping for candles. How many times have you browsed through a colleciton of candles just to find that many of them came close to what you were looking for, but none really hit the nail on the head? Our goal here is to create a candle shop where we can literally create any candle that comes to your mind. We're not quite there yet, but we're headed in the right direction.

Just in the pillar candle section alone, there are 400,000 unique candles that candle be created. On the entire website, there are millions, so it's very likely that if you have a certain candle in mind, you can design it here. This may actually sound intimidating. How can you choose from millions of options? It's actually quite simple. In the last year, we've developed an extremely intuitive order form that makes it very easy to create most any candle that you can imagine - and we're not finished.

Just to give you a quick rundown of options that are available in case you haven't looked at our product pages yet or haven't browsed the order forms, here is a quick list. You choose from:

Obviously this sounds very complicated, but because of our new order forms, it's not. All there is to do is to go through each step and select the appropriate option. You don't even have to fill out the steps in order. You can go back and change options, start over - whatever your heart desires.

Be sure to check out the picture galleries at the bottom of each product page to see examples of various types of candles. Obviously we don't have every conceivable candle in the galleries (we would have had to create millions of candles), but you can get a pretty good idea of what yours will look like.

Greek mythology is filled with tales of many gods and heroes. Among them are the Titans, twelve elder gods and goddesses who ruled the heavens and earth in the golden age of Greek legend. They were later overthrown in a great war by twelve younger deities, known as the Olympians, with Zeus being chief among them.

Prometheus is one well-known figure in this colorful pantheon. He was the son of Iapetus, one of the twelve Titans, and thus he often appears as an antagonist to Zeus. He is most famous for stealing fire from Zeus and giving it to humanity, an act for which he was cruelly punished: he was chained to a rock, where his liver was eaten daily by an eagle, only to grow back the next day to be eaten again. His torment was ended when he was released by the hero Heracles.

These are the broad strokes of the story of Prometheus, but the poets and philosophers differ on the finer details. Hesiod, who first told the story, painted Prometheus as a trickster who deceived Zeus, and Zeus in his anger hid fire from mankind. Aeschylus, though, shows us Prometheus as a culture hero, bringing not only fire but all the arts of civilization to mankind, and preventing Zeus in his wrath from destroying humanity. Still other tellers of the tale provided more details, such as Prometheus’s creation of human beings. As in the Judeo-Christian tradition and many other traditions around the world, it is said that Prometheus mixed water and earth and fashioned humans with his own hands.

The many versions of this tale reflect humanity’s complex feelings about fire, civilization, and life itself. Was he a trickster, deceiving the gods and bringing down their wrath on humans, thus making our lives the cycle of toil and burden it is now? Was he a culture hero, the savior of humanity and originator of culture, our finest achievement? Perhaps he was both, like the fire he brought to us. Without fire we have no warmth, no light, no cooked food, no life. But out of our control, fire is a raging beast. Perhaps this is why Prometheus is so hard to define—because he represents the fire inside each of us, the fire that makes us human.

It is this fire of life that Promethean Candles seeks to capture. Take a closer look at that candle. The small flame at the end of the wick is the very same fire that Prometheus stole from the gods on Olympus and brought to us in the mists of legend, and the candle that houses that flame was made in the same way that Prometheus was said to have fashioned humans: with hands of artistry, dedication, and vision.

Do you offer custom candles that do not appear on the site?

The short answer to that question is yes, we most certainly do. However, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to fill your order. If there is a size or shape that we do not have, or a container candle that does not appear on the site, chances are we will be able to make that candle.

However, since we will have to acquire molds or extra materials there is usually a minimum purchase required most often in the form of quantity. For example, if you wanted a 5" diameter by 5" height soy candle scented with a fragrance we do not carry, we will not charge you for the acquisition of the extra materials, but you may have to buy 7 or 8 of that same candle. This is simply so that we can stay in business and continue to offer you quality handmade custom candles.

Can you send samples of custom candles before I place a larger order?

No. Each candle that we make is hand poured per order, so most of what you're paying for when you buy a custom made candle is labor, not materials. However, if you are planning to place a very large order such as 50 or 70 candles, you can put down a non-refundable deposit that would go towards your purchase if you were to go through with the purchase.

Do you offer free samples of your products?

No. Only companies that have large inventories of products can afford to do that. We do not have an inventory since each of our candles are hand poured per order.

Do you offer discounts on bulk purchases?

Yes, absolutely. For our retail customers, on each product page, the last step in designing your candle is the quantity. To the right is a table that states the quantity discounts for that type of candle. Keep in mind that different discounts apply to different types of candles. For instance, if you were to order 5 one color pillar candles, you would save 10%, but if you were to order 5, 4 layer pillar candles, you would save 20%

Please also keep in mind that the quantity discount applies only per individual item. In other words, you need to order the exact same candle. If, say those pillar candles all had different fragrances, you would not qualify for a quantity discount. The reason for this is simple. When we make more than one of the same candle, we can pour those candles in one batch. This saves us labor and we pass those savings on to you.

Do you offer wholesale to businesses?

Yes, we do offer wholesale prices to businesses. Keep in mind though that all of our products are handmade so the wholesale price will not be as low as with factory made products. In addition, we do not offer discounted shipping as we do with regularly discounted retail sales. Because of this, very often the difference between wholesale and quantity discounted retail is negligable.

How long will it take me to receive my candles?

We are currently running a promotion where we guarantee* you will receive your candles in 10 business days from the day you order if the order is place before 1pm. If the order is placed after 1pm, then it is 10 days from the next business day.

We also offer rushed production for an additional fee. When you select ruched production, we guarantee* your candles will arrive within 7 business days from the day you order if the order is placed before 1pm. If the oder is placed after 1pm, then it is 7 days from the next business day.

Keep in mind, you may receive your candle well before 10 business days. It depends on the size of your order and our current workload. If you need to receive your candles by a specific date, please contact us before placing an order.

*99% of the time, any package send to anywhere in the continental US will not take more than 5 business day. Our guarantee is based on that assumption. All packages are shipped UPS and can be tracked on their site. If a package takes longer than 5 business days to arrive, we cannot take responsibility for the late arrival.

Will I be charged sales tax?

Only New York residents will be charged sales tax. The sales tax rate will be listed in the shopping cart before you check out.

Can you send me a catalog?

We do not currently have a printed catalog, however our full catalog is available for viewing on the products page of this website.

I don't like using my credit card online. Is your shopping cart secure?

Yes, it is very secure. When you go to checkout, you will see the "https://" in the address bar which proves that the page is secure. Our merchant is PayPals Website Payments Pro. Unless you are ordering custom candles that are not available on the site, the only way to place an order is through the website.

Can I change or cancel my order once it has been placed?

Our production process typically begins within 24 hours after the order has been placed. Orders can only be changed or cancelled before the production process has begun. If you would like to change or cancel your order, it would be best to call us immediately at 914-419-4819, and we will do our best to accommodate you. However, once we have begun the production process, your order cannot be changed or cancelled.

Is there any sort of guarantee?

We guarantee that your order will be made exactly as it was ordered. If we have made your order incorrectly or if the order is defective, we will either give you a complete refund or remake your order. Please see our return policy for complete details.

It takes 3 to 5 days to create your custom candles and 2 to 5 days for UPS ground shipping. You will receive your order in approximately 5 to 10 business days.

Production of your handmade custom candles will begin on the same day if your order is placed before 1pm. If the order is placed after 1pm, the production of your order will begin on the next business day.

If you absolutely need your order by a specific date, please contact us before you place your oder so we can be sure you will receive your candles by that date.

Currently, we only ship to the United States. If you live outside of the U.S. and would like to place an order, please contact us before you place the order.

Quantity discounts are available on ALL PRODUCTS and stated on each individual product page. Discounts range from 5% all the way up to 35%. The tables below represent the discount rates for each of our products. Discounts apply when you order more than one of the same candle. Colors will vary slightly to considerably depending on what type of wax is used, the concentration of fragrance and other variables. The sense of smell is said to be the strongest sense related to memory. When we smell certain fragrance, we are often reminded of certain meaningful times in our lives, places we've been or feelings we've felt. Here is a list of fragrances we currently have in stock. If you have a fragrance in mind that you do not see on the list, please contact us, and we will do our best to acquire that scent and include it in a custom candle order. If we receive more than a few requests for a particular scent, we will add it to our catalogue.

	Amber: This soothing fragrance is a rich combination of amber, African vanilla, and musk with a faint undertone of black cherry. We've searched long for an amber scent we were happy with, and this one comes out on top.
	Aphrodisiac: Amazingly complex and energizing, aphrodisiac begins with top notes of grapefruit, lemon, mandarin, and green tomato leaf; followed by middle notes of jasmine and dry base notes of eucalyptus and woods.
	Apple Cinnamon: If you're looking for a wonderful blend of apples and cinnamon without an overkill of bakery base notes, Apple Cinnamon fragrance oil is just for you! The aroma of a red juicy McIntosh apple, sprinkled with fresh ground cinnamon sticks.
	Apple Streusel: The aroma of freshly-baked apple streusel. This fragrance begins with top notes of apples, pears, and applesauce. Middle notes include banana leaves and freshly ground cinnamon bark. Base notes include dry notes of vanilla, hazelnut, and almond.
	Asian Pear & Lily: A beautiful, complex accord containing top notes of Nashi pear, apple, and leafy greenery; followed by middle notes of jasmine, Lily of the Valley, and rose petals; all sitting on base notes of pear nectar, musk, and peony blossoms.
	Autumn Magic: A spicey fall fragrance that starts with top notes of lemon and apple; followed by middle notes of anise, cinnamon, and ginger; sitting on well-rounded base notes of woods, musk, and vanilla.
	Baby Powder: Just like the names states, this fragrance is fresh and clean and is reminiscent of the ever so recognizable aroma of Johnson's Baby Powder. A perfect fragrance for any bathroom!
	Bamboo Hemp: An earthy yet fresh and green aroma consisting of a well-balanced blend of bamboo stalks, vetiver, and patchouli, with undertones of hemp seed and oakmoss.
	Banana Cream Pie: The aroma of freshly made banana cream pie. This fragrance begins with top notes of ripe banana, quince, and apple; middle notes of juicy pearberry, Anjou pear, clove buds, and plaintain leaves; base notes of vanilla extract, pie crust, and butter rum.

	Black Cherry Vanilla: This fragrance is most definitely a crowd favorite! A simple combination of our Black Cherry and Classic Vanilla fragrances make this a most complex, sweet and practically edible aroma!
	Blueberry Cobbler: This deliscious fragrance features top notes of butter and juicy blueberries with a background of freshly ground cinnamon bark and warm vanilla.
	Buttercream Cup Cake: This wonderful fragrance begins with top notes of churned whipped butter, blonde sugar cane; followed by middle notes of Madagascar vanilla and maple; well-rounded with a dry base note of vanilla extract.

	Dragon's Blood: This is a truly unique scent modeled after the famous. It is masculine and earthy fragrance with notes cedarwood, sandalwood and patchouli balanced with a hint of orange spice. The result is a complex sweet and musky fragrance.
	Dungeons & Dragons: This fragrance is a Promethean Candle Boutique original variation of Dragon's Blood. The sweetness of sandalwood and patchouli are accentuated with hints of vanilla and Nag Champa and finally balanced out with cedar wood and orange spice.
	Egyptian Musk: The romantic aroma of true Egyptian musk. Most musk scents are used as base notes for other complex fragrances. This is the most potent and richest musk we have found yet.
	Floral Bouquet: This fragrance smells just like a floral shoppe. Floral Bouquet features a unique combination of carnation, tulips, roses, and the ozone base note of fresh greenery.
	Flower Girl: This earthy yet feminine fragrance is another Promethean Candle original. Base notes of sandalwood are balanced out with notes of Nag Champa and top notes of sweet vanilla. If you miss the 60's (or wish you were there), this scent if for you!
	Frankincense & Myrrh: A perfect fragrance for the Christmas season. This fragrance is a synergisitc combination of frankincense and myrrh, balanced out with notes of patchouli, herbaceous woodsy pine, sheer musk, vanilla, and floral lilac notes.
	French Vanilla: A smooth and rich, sweet-smelling vanilla with creamy and buttery overtones. This vanilla similar to our Classic Vanilla fragrance, but is a bit more potent, velvety and a bit sweeter.
	Fresh Linen: A fresh and clean accord with soft subtle back notes of powder and musk. Very similar to Downy fabric softener. Notes include: jasmine, lilac, peony, Egyptian musk and French vanilla.
	Freshly Cut Grass: Just as the names states, this fragrance smells like you just finished cutting the grass. A turly fresh scent that will bring Spring time to any room.
	Freshly Cut Roses: Just as the names states, this fragrance smells just like a dozen freshly cut pink and red roses. The floral base notes are balances with fresh notes of crisp greenery.
	Gardenia: A floral blend of gardenia and jasmine with a strong orange flavor bottom note. This fragrance features both floral and citrus notes and is both relaxing and invigorating.
	Genuine Vanilla: This vanilla fragrance is a more acurate representation of genuine vanilla extract when compared to the classic, sweet vanilla fragrance usually used in candles. It is crisp and fresh - not buttery or sweet.
	Gingerbread: A nicely spiced cookie - or perhaps even a gingerbread house! Think of freshly baked gingerbread with hints of vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger.
	Green Tea: An aromatic delight of warm steeping green tea leaves accented with very subtle background notes of sweet vanilla and white musk - a truly soothing and pleasent aroma.
	Honeydew Melon: The refreshing aroma of a ripened honeydew melon. A sweet and fruity smelling fragrance with background notes of greenery to balance it out.
	Jade: Charming blend of sweet jasmine, white lilies and violets; middle notes of lavender, rose petels combined with a delicate touch of sun ripened pineapple; bottom notes of fresh apple and fresh green melon.
	Japanese Cherry Blossom: Oriental and sensual, our Japanese Cherry Blossom scent is a well-rounded blend of pink Japanese cherry blossoms and fragrant mimosa flower petals, with warm base notes of vanilla, Tonka bean, and oriental woods.
	Jasmine: A lovely feminine floral aroma of jasmine. This fragrance features an exotic blend of freshly cut jasmine flowers with subtle background base note of rose petals.
	Key Lime Pie: Bitter lime and green lemon zests on a dry down of vanilla cream. An almost edible aroma that will temp you to take a forkfull of Keylime Pie right out of the air.
	Kiwi: A single authentic note of fruity floral kiwi. Just like the real fruit, this kiwi fragrance smells of fresh and bright, sweet and tart sliced kiwis.
	Kyoto Dreams: This fragrance features fresh top notes of fresh Asian peaches with a background aroma of freshly steeped green tea and middle notes of jade - a Promethean Candle Boutique original.
	Lavender: Smells exactly like the essential oil (we also carry the essential oil, so we are qualified to make the comparison. A floral yet bright aroma of real lavender flowers.
	Lavender Chamomile: The soothing fresh floral aroma of lavender flowers balanced with the soft floral spice of just picked chamomile flowers. A lively and invigorating scent.
	Lavender Vanilla: It is a relaxing and tranquil scent that is also unique and memorable. A well-rounded combination of fresh lavender, fresh vanilla beans, with orange zests and patchouli.
	Lemon: Nothing will liven up your scences like the aroma of freshly sliced lemons! This lemon fragrance is perfect for the kitchen of bathroom and will make any room smell fresh and clean.
	Lemongrass: A truly fresh, clean and lively aroma! Lemongrass fragrance features the wonderful aroma of freshly cut lemongrass with a hint of green herbal notes and very bright citrus top notes.
	Lilac: A soft and soothing, feminine aroma of the lilac flower. Our Lilac fragrance smells of a lilac bush in full bloom - a truly beautiful and enticing scent.

	Lily of the Valley: A very popular fragrance that puts in a garden of fresh lilies. This scent is a fresh and green muguet de bois and true to its name. It smells just like lily of the valley flowers.
	Linen & Amber: Very unique, very sexy! Black linen and amber is a unisex fragrance that begins with top notes of fresh cotton and crisp ozonic notes; followed by middle notes of white blossoms; well rounded with base notes of cashmere, amber, musk, and patchouli.
	Mango: A simple, clean and fresh aroma of freshly sliced ripened mango. This fragrance is sweet, but not overly sweet, and balanced out with some very subtle green notes.
	Mayan Musk: Fresh orange and crisp aldehyde lead to a warm blend of woods and musk. Hints of rose are balanced with patchouli, cedar wood and sandalwood for warmth. This highly textured blend is sweetened with a hint of vanilla to round out the scent.
	Mountain Fresh: This fragrance begins with top notes of herbaceous green ivy, Brazilian orange, and Italian lemon; middle notes of Damascenia rose, ylang ylang, and violet; base notes of patchouli, cedarwood, musk, and vanilla.

	Nag Champa: Our Nag Champa candle fragrance features base notes of sandalwood and the Champa flower, and is combined with notes of patchouli and dragon\'s blood. The result is that ever so recognizable smell of Nag Champa Incense.
	New Car Scent: This fragrance smells exactly like that unmistakeable aroma of a brand new car with leather upholstery. Want to imagine yourself in a brand new car? Like a candle scented with New Car Scent!
